Plains Junior High Students Capture Second in District 3-A Literary Competition

The Plains Junior High student body was well-represented at the 2009-2010 District 3-A held Tuesday, December 8th at Sundown Junior High.  The University Interscholastic League (UIL) competition is composed of the 6th, 7th and 8th grade students.  Overall the Junior High students finished in second place behind Sundown Junior High. 

 

Mr. John Starcher, principal of Plains Middle School, was happy with the results of the day.  “We finished higher than last year and we also had more local participants from last year going from 64 in 2008 to 81 in 2009!   That will hopefully grow for next year’s contest!”  Although many students placed for Plains during the day long competition, the following were the first-place winners for Plains:

           

            Brock McWhirter – 7th Social Studies

            Alexus Flores – 6th Calculator

            Plains 6th Grade Calculating Team – Alexus Flores, Kyla McCutcheon, Aaron Ramos, and Yazmin Hernandez

            Kristian Cueto – 7th Calculator

            6th Grade Maps, Graphs, and Charts Team – Kyla McCutcheon, Brittany Michaleson, Tori Barbour, and Alexus Flores

            Kasidee Taylor – 7th Oral Reading

            Colby Bearden – 8th Oral Reading

            6th Grade Social Studies Team – Dantz DeBusk, Jezebel Guerra, Kyla McCutcheon, and Kate Mann

            Clayton Gass – 7th Grade Science

            Analyssa Vasquez – 6th Grade Music Memory

            6th Grade Music Memory Team – Analyssa Vasquez, Yazmin Flores, Kyla McCutcheon, and Jezebel Guerra

            William Boyles – 7th Grade Number Sense

            8th Grade Number Sense Team – Chasity Chavez, Jaston Brink, Zack Wilkins, and Lucas Hernandez

            8th Grade Mathematics Team – Jaston Brink, Chasity Chavez, Lucas Hernandez, and Zack Wilkins

           

Congratulations to all the Plains winners from the 2009 UIL Literary Contest!  What a great accomplishment and growth, and more will come next year!
